‘DAUL: A Theatre Group’ started its journey on 8th February 2006 with its first production Buro Saliker Ghare Ron (Author – Michael Madhusudan Dutta). In due course of time it continued and is still continuing with many successful productions, such as Shong (Joker) by Rashed Mamun Apu; Yakshapuri – an adaptation of Tagore’s Raktakarabi; Chandalika by Rabindranath Tagore; Tagore’s Sharadotsav; Prem Puran by Afsar Ahmed; Kamala Sundarir Pala, An adaptation of Tagore’s short story Musalmanir Golpo; Tagore’s Dakghar and some other plays.

Rabindranath Tagore has been our constant inspiration since our first thoughts of forming the DAUL (troupe). Apart from his overarching presence in our aesthetics, we have been trying to assimilate and bear the great theatrical heritage of Bengal.

We are relentlessly trying to incorporate many of Bengal’s folk games, dance and all ritualistic performances into our newly thought ‘Actor’s Training Method’, which we have been trying to develop for the last few years. We grounded our first experimentation with this Method in a workshop with the students of Patha-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, in 2015 and subsequently produced Rabindranath Tagore’s play Sharadatsav. Later, we made it a complete version as our group production in 2016. Interestingly, Tagore started to modify his dramaturgy in the first decade of the 20th century, making him the pioneer of the ‘Modern Bengali theatre’. Sharadatsav was his first creation in that initiative.

In addition, we have an international refereed e-journal named Thespian Magazine (ISSN 2321-4805), which is a bilingual e-journal, published both in Bengali and English. It is brought out twice a year as “Nababarsha Sankhya” (Bengali New Year Edition; April-May) and “Sharat Sankhya” (Autumn Edition; September-October). Though the title itself suggests the main focus of the journal, we try to bring together every wing of Art, Literature and Culture through our publication and other sections.

Right from the beginning of the journey of Thespian Magazine (2013) we had an aim to furnish it with international outlook and so far we have tried our best to do so and we are privileged to be associated with nationally and internationally recognized personalities.

To make our publication more lively and acceptable to a wide range of people, we have introduced a new section called NEWS AND EVENTS where the readers can find the updated news of our publications as well as other activities throughout the year.  The focal point of this section is to involve the readers in our publication, where everybody can bring out their activities like seminars/symposiums, cultural events (Theatre/Dance/Exhibitions, etc.), publication ceremonies and so on (along with photographs) through this window. This section will keep on getting updated throughout the year which has no direct relation with the main publication (Thespian Magazine) and its time limit.

In order to enrich and modify ourselves with your valuable opinions and suggestions, we have arranged a FEEDBACK section in the homepage where you can leave your precious comments and thoughts regarding our activities.

We want to connect ourselves with the teams who are engaged in activities related to performing arts and we have kept Contact Ussection of the journal.
